Tennis Courts

Single Hero

Serving up excellence

Sports give girls the space and place to be both competitive and collaborative — two skills they need to thrive in the world.

In a technological era when people are more and more isolated, racquet sports require connection. A huge reason racquet sports are "life-long" is the social requirement —you cannot play alone.

Dana Hall's current tennis courts are not playable; the School now must rent outside courts in order to run full practices and host home matches. This is not sustainable.

Competitive landscape

  • 6 of the 9 other EIL schools with tennis programs have on-campus courts.
  • 16 ISL peer schools have on-campus tennis courts.
  • Without new courts, we limit both our ability to be as competitive athletically as we hope to be, and attract and retain students with a keen interest in competitive sports.

The project

  • The courts will be rotated 90 degrees from the current orientation and include 6 courts, instead of 5. The new orientation keeps the sun out of players’ eyes.

  • A Post-Tension Concrete Slab System makes the courts significantly stronger and more crack-resistant than conventional reinforced concrete.

  • The new courts will have a long service life, with a 20-year structural warranty against cracking.

Shade, seating, parking

  • A Shade Structure will accommodate tables and chairs for teams during practice, spectators during matches, and can serve as a covered outdoor area for general student use. The solid roof also allows the structure to function as shelter from rain.
  • Stationary 2-row bleachers will accommodate approximately 20 spectators.
  • There will be formal parking spaces along Hampden rather than on-street parking on Eliot.

Possibilities and potential uses

  • The courts could also be lined for pickleball (pending Town of Wellesley approval).

  • Community rentals are a potential new revenue stream.

Site plan

Site plan for new tennis courts at Dana Hall School.

Dana Hall is partnering with Vision Sports Design, the same firm that built the turf Sisters Field in 2019.

How we get there

The Dana Hall Board of Trustees requires all capital projects to have 90% of funds pledged and 50% of the gifts in hand before beginning a project. There is a short window to secure gifts and pledges in order to start construction this summer.

Gifts of $15,000 or more will be recognized on a donor plaque.

Naming Opportunities

Amount Opportunities Space
$750,000 1 Tennis Facility
$300,000 1 Shade Structure
$200,000 6 Tennis Court
$50,000 1 Bleacher

With your support, Dana Hall can serve up new tennis courts.

All gifts and pledges completed by June 2027 will count in the Fearless Futures campaign.

Tennis has been part of Dana Hall's history of excellence since the 1880s.

This opportunity ensures that legacy for the next generation of student-athletes.
