Directing her own path

“When I was 14, I packed two suitcases and moved from Hong Kong to Massachusetts,” explains Hannah Leung ’98. “I didn’t know how to do anything—laundry, dishes, organize my own schedule—but Dana Hall taught me to figure things out and to trust myself.”

The self-confidence to direct her own path—and to change course when necessary—played a critical role for Hannah throughout her professional life. After graduating from Wellesley College, she began to carve out a career in event planning, first working for a private firm and later working in-house at JP Morgan. She soon realized that she wanted to transition from the events team to be a client advisor, and returned to school to complete her MBA. Her hard work paid off: today, Hannah works as a Managing Director for JP Morgan Private Bank, where she provides financial advice to ultra high net worth clients. “Dana Hall helped me become the type of person who could advocate for herself and achieve this trajectory,” she says.

Hannah explains that students need excellent technology and facilities, but it’s the intangible spirit of Dana Hall that stands out most in her memory, and that truly sets the school apart. “I’ve lived in Switzerland, France, Hong Kong, and Manhattan,” says Hannah. “The fearlessness to believe ‘I can do it’—whatever it is—is something I learned here that I will never forget.”
